Happy Belated #GenTX Day!
Yesterday, we celebrated our advocacy for higher ed in the State of Texas🏇 by sharing our college shirts on 📳social media ~ great timing before my school trip today!
This raised my awareness that I’ve been showing team spirit📢 a great deal lately!
Our Lady of the Lake University ~ where I’m finishing my PhD🎓
Duke University ~ for Coach K‘s 5th NCAA🏆

Texas Lutheran University ~ whose basketball🏀 team won the SCAC

🔔Ring in spring🌾
When I visited San Antone for school last month, I picked out pasalubong …
along with tees for yours truly!
Since I’ve resumed my Church duties and returned to work from bed rest,
I might as well recover from my cold by color-coordinating in pairing these tops with these scarves!
We can call these match-ups a 🍀Spring Fling👌!

My trip to So-Tex proved to be productive …
- First, I spent a whole day at my school in SA ~ where I initially visited my Chapel for Stations of the †Cross† and ♥Adoration♥ before the Blessed Sacrament, followed by researching at the library

My †CHRIST† Bro, Joe, gave me this business card holder that comes in handy whenever I switch handbags!
2. Then, I got to see my fellow Ph.D. in CC for his fresh-from-the-press brand-newly released book ~ which I’ll continue to read during ♣Spring Break♣
I think that I can manage to read a chapter per day on the days when I’m off from teaching and tutoring!

It is official: my study has been approved!
Needless to say, when I was notified that I can commence my research, I was overjoyed and grateful to GOD. During every free moment, I have worked on my dissertation, from my concept proposal to my proposal defense to my research proposal ~ it surely has paid off!
Here is more information about my study:
I am surveying Texas student-athletes on their perceptions of how their college coaches’ leadership influences their academic and athletic performance, as well as their athlete satisfaction. Based on my own studies of leadership, this element is essential:
***VISION***

When I asked my former boss at the first college where I taught what she needed to complete her Ph.D., she pointed out to me:

***PERSEVERANCE***

When I asked my former office next door neighbor at that same school what got her through her terminal degree, she told out me:

***ENDURANCE***

… which also helped her with her first 5K race, which we randomly ran together!

A true leader is one who serves.
The philosophy of Robert Greenleaf is put into practice in the first book by Dr. Barbara Baggerly-Hinojosa, the first graduate of my cohort in our Ph.D. program.

In Are You a Ten?: The Ten Characteristics of a Servant Leader, Dr. Baggerly-Hinojosa includes journals for her readers to keep track of the progress through their servant leadership journey. She has taught workshops using this guide.

Following the publication of Are You a Ten?, Dr. B-H also released The Leadership Collection, an anthology of articles.

Now Are You a Ten? is also available en español!

My doc classmate who I met yesterday also reminded me to look out for the best interest of my own students, a true testament of servant leadership.
Keep serving!

I could almost taste it…

That’s what I’ve been telling people lately whenever I refer to my Ph.D.🎓 As long as I maintain that self-fulfilling prophecy (one of my students’ vocabulary terms) by taking those steps👣 toward it, I’ll be icing my dissertation📜 ~ yet it definitely hasn’t been a piece🍰 of cake🎂.

Fortunately, Our Lady of the Lake University has a brand new campus🏤 (to me, considering I haven’t been down here since 2013) in the Valley🌴. My professor, Dr. Duncan, was gracious enough to show me around the RGV site, plus introduce me to other faculty and students.

While I’m on job assignment, I feel blessed to have our school just a two-step👢 (as in two towns) away ~ so there’s no way I can skip a beat💖!

Now that it’s graduation season, I’m dedicating this Dub-Dub (WW for Workout Wednesday) to our grads!
As someone who’s graduated from several schools and going on one more (for my doctoral degree), I’ve collected clothes from each of them, as well as schools where I’ve taught. When I travel, like for work this week, I tend to take a little something from these schools with me, namely, as workout gear!

These are just a few tops and bottoms from schools where I’ve attended and/or worked that are appropriate for warm weather. Here are the ones where I’ve taken and/or taught classes:
* McMurry University (Bachelor’s) * Angelo State (Master’s) * Our Lady of the Lake (Ph.D.) * South Texas College (taught) * Texas A&M University – Kingsville (taught) * Texas State Technical College Harlingen (taught) * Cisco College (will teach)
As you can see, I’m all about representing my alma maters! What better way to kickoff the day during my hotel stay than to hit the gym (or these trip workouts)? Yay!
To the tune of Nirvana…
Smells like Team Spirit!

Separation between Church and State… What’s that?
When I taught college, I didn’t lead my classes in prayer because we were in public schools. However, I did inform my students that I am a woman of faith, and I occasionally requested moments of silence out of respect for people or incidents that I believe deserved our attention.
My Ph.D. is from Our Lady of the Lake University, a Catholic school, so I’m grateful for my faith-based education. Before our classes, we would pray. Every year, we would have our Convocation at Church, where we would light candles to illuminate. After we passed our first year luminary exams, we earned these medals.

Our fourth year symbolized our candidacy, upon completing our final set of comprehensive exams.

Matthew 5:14-16
Bearing all of this in mind, I very much integrate my soul into my studies.
Spirit Mode = Scholar Mode
Recently, I reached my latest milestones as a Ph.D. Candidate who is ABD (All But Dissertation): the blessing of my Concept Proposal before the HOLYdays and the passing of my Proposal Defense this past Tuesday! GOD has surely blessed me on this journey, and as my classmate, Dr. Alex Garza, who graduated a year ago, told me: it’ll happen in GOD’s time.
Today, the LORD likewise blessed me in continued service to our Church: this time as commentator at Mass for the first time. After going through my proposal, I felt like my voice was cracking. Yet the LORD stayed by my side, and kept me going, and luckily, several congregation members commended me for speaking clearly.
Where am I going with this? I am going with GOD’s calling, which is to establish a Catholic school. The future generations of the Church deserve an opportunity to lead by their faith and values systems, even in their education. Honestly, I am uncertain of what will happen from here, but if I keep listening to GOD, He will lead me toward His plan.
GOD Bless Y’all!!! ¡Díos los bendigan!
Happy Birthday to Bishop Mike mañana!
By the way, my friend, Bishop Pfeifer has double-digits in his age this year, as well as my mom, the Birthday Girl, this Tuesday, and I also will in my next birthday!
